Employment

We help our youth to understand the importance of stable employment as a means of achieving independence. Our employment specialist and support team help prepare youth for the world of work, using employment assessments and the youth’s Individual Action Plans as guides.

In addition to employment and vocational counseling, they learn key skills in securing and retaining a job: writing cover letters and crafting resumes; dressing and communicating for successful interviews; adhering to basic work expectations such as timeliness and respectful interactions with co-workers and supervisors; managing difficult workplace relationships and conflicts; and advocating appropriately for their advancements.

To help secure jobs, our employment specialist develops relationships with employers throughout the city. Once a job is secured, we provide ongoing support so they can balance job and life demands, handle interaction with supervisors and keep their job. In fact, TLP is proud to partner with La Casa Norte on Illinois' first transitional jobs program, providing support and training to help youth keep jobs once they obtain them.  Through Project Youth Works program, first-time employees receive the tools they need to become seasoned professionals.
