Health and Nutrition

Being homeless is traumatic. It takes an enormous toll on body, mind, and spirit. For many of our youth, caring for nutritional and emotional needs seems like a luxury they cannot afford.

Nurturing mental and physical health is the bedrock upon which all of our programs are built. Under the care of Whole Health’s certified professionals, youth have their primary health care, mental health, and nutrition needs met; receive diagnoses for illnesses and chronic conditions; manage existing physical and mental health conditions; develop goals for nutrition, and physical and mental health management; and learn how to manage health and nutrition on their own. Through the clinical director, youth development specialists, psychiatrists, and therapists, youth have on-site access to psychiatric care and psychotherapy; substance abuse counseling and treatment referrals.

TLP’s nurse practitioner staffs the on-site Belfort House health clinic, providing immediate and ongoing primary healthcare and health education; conducting communicable disease screenings, pregnancy tests, and vaccinations; and giving referrals for serious illness, vision, and dental care.

TLP’s milieu culinary specialist works with youth to incorporate nutritional goals into their Individual Action Plans, and teaches youth how to shop for, prepare, and cook nutritionally sound meals.
