Through the eyes of TLP youth, get a more personal look at what a life-changing impact our programs have made. Read youth’s stories and watch videos to hear what they have to say about the importance of TLP in their lives.
Laquiesha: When she came to TLP, Laquiesha was looking for more than just a warm bed at night and a secure roof over her head—she also wanted the chance to finally develop deep and lasting relationships.
Malaundja: The first day that Malaundja stepped foot in Belfort House, she fell in love with TLP.
Kevin: A year ago Kevin found himself sitting on a park bench with all of his possessions by his side and no where else to turn. Once he came upon TLP, there was no looking back.
Patricia: Growing up, Patricia lived with her mother, but after repeated conflicts over her homosexuality, she left home when she was 17. She remembers the day she came to Belfort House at age 18 as “the day my life changed.”
Cherice: Cherice has wrestled demons, lost faith, and at times, slipped up. In her two years at TLP, she has triumphed over fear, learned to transform difficult relationships, and become capable of consistently making—and sticking with—good choices. She also has become her own best advocate.
Eric: Eric came all the way through the ranks of TLP, and quickly! Just two years ago, he arrived at TLP’s Bronzeville Shelter for minors, fleeing an abusive father. Now he has a job and his own CaSSA apartment. “TLP is the best thing that ever happened to me. They are like angels!” he exclaims.
